Bodacious Voices: Women connecting through the magic of storytelling

A message from CWB Member, Beth McKay:

“We’re hosting a Pad Party & we want you to join us. What’s a Pad Party? It’s exactly what it sounds like: a party to collect donations of tampons & pads. One-third of Canadian women under the age of 25 say they’ve struggled to afford menstrual products, according to Plan International Canada. That’s why Dignity. Period. is working to supply menstrual hygiene products across Nova Scotia to people who struggle to afford or access the supplies they need. Menstrual hygiene products are not a luxury. Without them, people with periods cannot maintain their health, participate fully in school or work, or reach their full potential. Addressing “period poverty” is a key element of working toward gender equality. Thousands of people in Nova Scotia have to make tough choices every month. Food or tampons? Rent or Pads? I can’t wait to fill the Local Council of Women with women that will & do make a difference. We’ll be creating some incredible magic on the 22nd.”

Inspired Leadership Podcast

A message from CWB Member, Susan Power:

“Tyler Bayley and Susan Power talk about what is Inspired Leadership. The purpose of this podcast is to celebrate examples of inspired leadership to create more of it in our workplaces. The word “Inspire” means to excite, encourage, or breathe life into. Inspire comes from the Latin word that means to inflame or to blow into. When you inspire someone, it is as if you are blowing air over a low flame to make it grow.

If you have a leadership story you think we should feature on a future episode, we would love to hear from you.”

Catering Services in the Atlantic Region

Does your business offer catering services in one of the four Atlantic provinces? Is it owned or led by a woman? If you answered yes to these two questions, then you will want to participate in a pilot project where your business name will be part of a list shared with all federal departments and agencies across the region!

The Government of Canada is committed to increasing the percentage of women-owned businesses that participate in federal procurement. To that end, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) in the Atlantic region has recently launched a supplier diversity pilot for catering services offered by women-owned or led businesses.
The more than 40 federal departments and agencies with a presence in Atlantic Canada will have access to the list of qualified suppliers and be encouraged to use the list for their catering needs.
It’s easy to participate and it’s free! Suppliers interested in doing business with the Government of Canada simply need to fill out a short questionnaire available via this link.  For more information about this opportunity, visit the Request for Information (RFI) published onBuyandsell.gc.ca.

If you have any questions about this pilot project or about federal procurement, please contact the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME), Atlantic region:

Mindful Career & Leadership Conversations

Welcome to Summer!

We have just returned from a 2 week family vacation in Portugal! The adventures were endless! Often the internet was not functioning which reminded my husband and I to remain disconnected and savour every moment! The benefits of a family vacation are clear. “We know that taking a break is extremely good for one’s mental health,” says Susan Krauss Whitbourne, an adjunct professor of gerontology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, who frequently writes about the benefits of vacation. “It puts you in a different frame of mind, gets you out of your standard patterns and can give you time with family.” The family memories we have to savour from our recent trip to Portugal are priceless! For us business leaders “it’s vital to take time to renew, re-energize, refocus, and return to work with a heightened sense of clarity, contentment, and purpose.”

Shelley Cox, an Executive Career and Leadership Coach, creates mindful spaces for Emerging Leaders to tap into their radical self-awareness, crafting authentic career and leadership brands they love, so they EMERGE STRONG, resilient and energized with an entrepreneurial mindset to serve with passion.

Is Your “Quacking Duck” Stealing Your Brain?!!?

In a recent meeting a leader mentioned a difficult situation with another leader. The purpose of this meeting was to share highlights of a recent successful project, but her natural instinct was to begin the interaction with a negative comment that set the tone for the entire meeting

“Your story and resiliency is something that a lot of women can relate to. I certainly do. I love the Calm Power methodology and how this helps to build your “why” to move forward with your goals. Leaders who are tired of the command and control world who want to build a business-life with a more nurturing and compassionate approach will find your coaching and your programs extremely valuable!”
