Community News: Building a Home for 2SLGBTQIA+ Entrepreneurs in Atlantic Canada

The Queer Atlantic Business Hub is taking shape, a new initiative designed to bring together 2SLGBTQIA+ business owners, entrepreneurs, and community partners from across Atlantic Canada.

Funded by the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) and facilitated by Sea Change CoLab, this project aims to build something that has never existed before in the region: a bilingual, community-developed organization that supports and celebrates 2SLGBTQIA+ entrepreneurship in Atlantic Canada.

Over the next several months, the team at Sea Change CoLab will work alongside partners, entrepreneurs, allies, and advocates in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador to co-create this new organization. It will be grounded in our realities, our aspirations, and the collective power and creativity of queer and trans business owners.

From the start, this process has been about listening. The Hub is not being built for the community; it is being built with the community. That is why the first step is a Community Survey. The survey invites 2SLGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs and allies across the region to share their experiences, challenges, and dreams for what this new organization should become. The insights gathered will directly shape the Hub’s programs, supports, and priorities.

Participation is open to anyone who identifies as 2SLGBTQIA+ or who works closely with the community, whether you are a small-business owner, freelancer, artist, or advocate. Every response matters.

The survey is short, accessible, and available in both English and French. By taking a few minutes to complete it, respondents will help ensure the Hub reflects the full diversity of Atlantic Canada’s 2SLGBTQIA+ business landscape, urban and rural, established and emerging, across industries and identities.

In the months ahead, the Hub will host community engagement sessions, both virtual and in person, to keep the conversation going. These gatherings will provide a space to connect, exchange ideas, and help shape the values and vision of the organization together.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a sustainable, bilingual non-profit organization with strong governance, inclusive policies, and meaningful programming that strengthens connections between 2SLGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs, partners, and allies.

At its heart, the Queer Atlantic Business Hub is about belonging. It is about building a home that reflects who we are, celebrates our contributions, and opens doors for future generations of 2SLGBTQIA+ business leaders.

Now’s the time to lend your voice.
Share your perspective by completing the Community Survey and help build a stronger, more connected queer and trans business community in Atlantic Canada.
