Annual Terry Fox Run Goes Virtual

 July 28, 2020

The Terry Fox Run will have a different look this year. Normally a popular in-person event throughout the country, the Terry Fox Foundation announced this year’s event – the 40th run – will take place virtually on Sunday, September 20.

Terry Fox Foundation Nova Scotia Provincial Director and CWB member, Lacey Johns, says her team is committed to honouring Terry’s memory and his perseverance. “Because cancer research can't wait for COVID-19 to be over,” Johns notes, “Because Terry asked us to try.”

The foundation is encouraging people to unite in spirit, not in person. The tag line for this year’s event is “Terry Fox Run 2020. One Day. Your Way.” Supporters are encouraged to register online for their local community run at and participate on September 20, whichever way they choose. One day. Your way. Whether it be to walk, ride, run or perform any other activity to get out and raise awareness and funds for the Terry Fox Foundation.

After 39 years as an in-person event, Johns adds that going virtual has certainly has required some adjusting. “This has been a very big learning curve for us, and our community Run Organizers, but I think we’ve all adapted very well. Our Run Organizers are very creative and have come up with many different ways to encourage their community members to transition to a virtual event.”
