May 27: CWB & ACOA to lead virtual trade mission this summer

The CWB and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) are coordinating a multi-sector business-to-business virtual trade mission for a group of 10-12 Atlantic Canada businesses this summer to Kingston, Jamaica and Miami, Florida.

OnSide Performance has announced that it will be reopening on June 5. Keep an eye on their website and social media channels for updated social distancing rules.

May 15: CWB launches new High Growth Recovery Program 

In response to significant business impacts of COVID-19, the CWB has launched a new High Growth Recovery Program that will guide and support women business owners as they respond and navigate the next six months and beyond. This program addresses the importance of business continuity and covers topics including crisis management, mobilizing an action plan, stabilizing your business, and designing a strategy to implement your new business model. This program is available to women business owners with pre-COVID-19 revenues of $1M or more, and is scheduled in begin in early June.

April 29: As Nova Scotia grieves, demand for flags soars

The Flag Shop Nova Scotia was featured in a CBC News Nova Scotia segment for their increase in business. Owner Debbie Hartlen spoke about The Flag Shop's healthcare hero flags and how people are using provincial flags to show community support [0:50].

March 5: Tick spray maker invests in validation

February 27: Strait Area Chamber FEMpowers Women Across Cape Breton

The CWB was proud to partner with the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce and other supporters in Cape Breton for the first annual FEMpower – Women Leading Change conference on Friday, February 21. Our Cape Breton business advisor, Courtney Schmidt, was among the attendees and eager to connect with women from all stages of their business journey  from aspiring entrepreneurs to established business owners looking to grow their business and network. Our new member, Roni Davis, was also a featured guest speaker at FEMpower, discussing the important of mindfulness and nutrition. We are #CWBproud of Roni, Courtney, and all of the women who attended this inspiring event.

The Centre for Women in Business (CWB) at Mount Saint Vincent University is a testament to the value of having an empowered, female network. For more than 27 years, the CWB has been an advocate for women in business across Nova Scotia, providing opportunities and resources for women to achieve success in entrepreneurship.

Now, the CWB is expanding its network to reach even more women in business here in Nova Scotia – this time, online.

February 4: CWB seeking event photographer for ADVANCE: IWD 2020

We are seeking an event photographer to capture the energy and inspiration in the room at our annual ADVANCE: International Women's Day event on Wednesday, March 4. Project deliverables include a shot list and providing a full suite of photographs from the event. Submissions will be accepted until 11:59pm on Thursday, February 13.

After a successful pilot in November 2019, the Centre for Women in Business has launched a new online networking opportunity for rural women in business. Coffee Talk is a monthly program, designed to connect women in business across Nova Scotia with each other, encourage collaborations, and improve business skills through sharing.

January 7: CWB team welcomes new communications assistant

We are excited to announce that Sarah Greening has joined the CWB team as our communications assistant for the winter semester. Sarah is a third-year Bachelor of Public Relations student from Mount Saint Vincent University. Sarah is originally from Newfoundland and enjoys reading, writing, travelling, and volunteering at her local SPCA. Over the next four months, Sarah is looking forward to meeting our CWB community and sharing their stories of perseverance and success.

January 6: CWB team welcomes Denise Williams as NS Project Coordinator for the Atlantic Canada Women in Business Growth Partnership

We are pleased to announce that Denise Williams is joining the CWB team as  the Nova Scotia Project Coordinator for the Atlantic Canada Women in Business Growth Partnership Program. In July, Minister Jordan announced two Women Entrepreneurship Strategy Investments in Atlantic Canada, of which this project was one. Denise will work with women entrepreneurs in trades, technology and STEM related fields, as well as Indigenous women, new immigrants, women with disabilities and women in rural areas that are starting businesses.

Denise has worked as an independent consultant and educator for over 25 years. She has worked with local, national and international companies and diverse industries, helping them identify plans to successfully grow their businesses. Denise is a strong advocate for finding ways to incorporate technology and innovation into business growth, and believes that the opportunities for women today are endless with increasing globalization and export development. Read more about Denise.

Congratulations to Tisha Parker Kemp with shiftED Academy who was recently awarded a national "Learner Impact" Award of Excellence from the Institute for Performance and Learning (I4PL). Learn more about the Presentation Booster Program (another cohort begins in January).
