Researching about and advocating for women’s enterprise

Research & Development

The Centre for Women in Business is in the unique position of being the only university business development centre in Canada with a primary focus on women’s enterprise and the only women’s entrepreneurship organization that is part of a university. Drawing on the experience and areas of expertise of University faculty, the Centre promotes research that integrates women’s perspectives on leadership and entrepreneurship.

The Centre has been involved in a number of research projects, the most recent being a 2010 survey of women business owners in Nova Scotia that sought to measure the impact of women-focused business management programming offered by the Centre for Women in Business.

Advocacy

As the driving force for the advancement of entrepreneurial women in Atlantic Canada, the Centre strives to support initiatives that champion the needs of women business owners. Centre staff and board members play an active role in a number of emerging projects and organizations that support Canadian women entrepreneurs. This includes participating in the Taskforce for Women’s Business Growth that focuses on creating awareness for the immediate, active policy and program support to help women entrepreneurs realize their full economic potential.

Likewise, the Centre supports organizations like WeConnect Canada and Women President’s Organization that all have mandates to assist with the various needs of women business owners.
