Tips for writing your business profile in 60 – 100 words

  • Write your business profile so that someone quickly and clearly gets the idea of what you are selling, who you are selling to, and why they should pick up the phone and call you for this product or service. Simply stating that you offer “home based travel agency services” or offer “business consulting” doesn’t make you sound special, unique or competitive. These types of profiles are not descriptive enough to cause a buying reaction from the reader.
  • Does your business offer a product, a service or both? Not sure? Can you count or create an inventory list of the things you sell? Things like cars, shoes, perfume (in bottles), etc. are all products. If you cannot inventory what you sell, then it is a service. Anything from business consulting to lawn cleaning to window washing would be considered a service.
  • Who is your target client, or who is the person who would find your product or service the most beneficial? Think strategically here – you can sell your product or service to anyone who wishes to pay for it but if you are going to utilize your limited marketing dollars to their best ability, who are you really targeting? Can you work this into your business profile so that your target clients, when reading the profile, realize that this is the product or service for them?
  • Would it be useful to list your products and services so that the potential client can see what you offer quickly and easily? For example:
    Edna’s Internet Solutions offers:
    Web writing
Custom website design (that you can easily make changes to yourself)
    Search engine optimization
E-commerce solutions so your clients can buy your products on-line
Internet marketing & social media strategies that work for your business
  • What are the key benefits to the customer of using your product or service? Will they smell better? Help you sleep better? Cause you to feel smarter? Save time? Save money? Make you look or feel better? Benefits are different than features. Features are the actual use of the product or service – consumer benefits actually cause them to purchase. Buzz words like reliability, durability, ease of use, longevity, adaptability, etc. are all examples of words that signify benefits.

So please to see yet another example of the value of being part a member of the Center for Women in Business, keep up the good work.”
